    World Patient Safety Day

September 17 is World Patient Safety Day, a day established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about improving patient safety worldwide.

This year’s slogan is “Patient Safety from the Start! " and focuses on safe care for every newborn and every child, recognizing the particular vulnerability of newborns and children to the risks and harm caused by unsafe care. It represents an important opportunity to raise public awareness, strengthen collaboration among all stakeholders, and mobilize global action to improve patient safety, while reaffirming every child’s fundamental right to safe and quality healthcare.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is calling for immediate and coordinated action to eliminate all preventable harm in the care of newborns and children. This call builds on previous global campaigns focused on safe childbirth, prioritizing patient safety, the safety of healthcare workers, medication safety, patient and family involvement, and the safety of the diagnostic process.

Goals of World Patient Safety Day 2025:

    1. Raising global awareness of the risks to the safety of newborn and child care at all levels of the health system, with a particular focus on the specific needs of children, their families, and their caregivers.
    2. Mobilizing governments, health organizations, professional bodies, and civil society to implement sustainable and effective strategies that ensure safer care for newborns and children, within the framework of broader policies on patient safety and the improvement of the quality of health services provided.
    3. Empowering parents, caregivers, and children on patient safety issues by promoting education, enhancing information sharing, and encouraging active participation in the care process.
    4. Supporting and promoting scientific research in the field of patient safety, with an emphasis on the care of newborns and children.

We are working together for a safer healthcare system!
